Three killed after Russia launches 'massive' attack across Ukraine
Three killed after Russia launches'massive' attack across Ukraine Russia carried out a massive overnight attack on several Ukrainian cities, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said, a day after he warned of strikes over the Christmas period. At least three people were killed, according to Ukrainian officials, including a four-year-old child, while energy infrastructure was also targeted, leaving several regions without power. Russia launched 635 drones and 38 missiles, Ukraine's air force said, adding that 621 of them were downed. Zelensky said people simply want to be with their families, at home, and safe in the run-up to Christmas, and said the strikes sent an extremely clear signal about Russia's priorities despite ongoing peace talks. He added that Russian President Vladimir Putin still cannot accept that he must stop killing.

Russia launches huge drone attack as Kyiv marks historic famine
Russia fired its biggest barrage of loitering munitions to date at Ukraine overnight as Kyiv prepares to commemorate victims of the 1930s famine orchestrated by Soviet leader Josef Stalin to force Ukrainian peasants onto collective farms. Ukraine's air defense said it shot down 71 of 75 Shahed-131/136 drones aimed mainly toward the capital region and launched from two directions within Russia. The overnight attack caused electricity to be shut off to hundreds of people in Kyiv and the surrounding region, the provider said Saturday morning as temperatures dipped to around freezing. The air alert in Kyiv lasted for about six hours. Falling debris from a drone set a fire in a kindergarten, while some apartment buildings were damaged and five people were wounded, said Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

The Ukrainian Air Force said it destroyed 29 of 31 drones and one cruise missile launched by Russia, mostly towards the regions of Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk, during overnight attacks that lasted more than three hours. Falling debris from destroyed Russian drones caused fires in Dnipro and in an industrial enterprise in Pavlograd, two cities in Ukraine's eastern Dnipropetrovsk region. Firefighters managed to extinguish both fires and there were not initial reports regarding victims.
